Occupational Necessities: The Recap, Part Three

My return home was accentuated by more social events than I could handle, including a Christmas Party at a place where Nathan and Vjera were working, 9Wood, Inc. See, I had decided when I was in the UK that I wanted a job here more than anywhere else in the world, and I sent an application letter from my British computer trying to whet their appetite. Through a funny series of events, Nathan, who was doing some work for them, needed some help and brought me on board. As a matter of fact, I didn’t really _know_ I was hired until one of my bosses informed me that he couldn’t legally pay me until I signed some paperwork saying that I actually worked there. If anyone had ever snuck themselves into a job, it was me.

9Wood didn’t know what hit them, and I liked it that way. I spent about three months working a reclusive job putting together specification binders for our products, before fate gracefully gave me an opportunity. Vjera, who had been working the front desk, got an offer to do a different type of work, and they drew on the only available girl in the office, yours truly. So, in March, I got the job that I wanted at the company that I adored. Answering phones, filing faxes, shipping, organizing, and shopping for office supplies to my heart’s content. For those of you who like school shopping, the crisp pages of new notebooks, and bouquets of freshly-sharpened pencils, you would envy my job, I spend more money on office supplies in a month than most people do in a year, and I get to open ALL the boxes.

Just recently I have found myself (I mean in the last few days) with a performance review and a raise, both of which were both educating and surprisingly enjoyable, nothing like getting paid more money to do a job that you already love.
