The Asterix Park

This morning we set out for a theme park based around the Asterix books. It was a smaller than Disneyland, but the theme made it fun to wander through, and it has several rides worth mentioning. There were two water rides with huge drop, and a roller coaster where our car was on wheels and was sent careening around corners freely on this curved course. There was a very crazy metal roller coaster with about six upside-down loops and two corkscrew-style loops. That ride, though only about a minute-and-a-half long, was very fun, although a little jarring as it went quite fast and shook us around significantly. There was also a wooden roller coaster which we could only see small sections of while we were standing in line, and seemed quite tame. It was only once we got strapped into the thing and reached the top of the first peak that we discovered that is was huge, long, and full of steep drops, tight tuns, and sudden, lurching stops. I was out of breath by the time we careened back into the station. Turns out it is the longest wooden roller coaster in the world.

Much like Disneyland and other American theme parks, the roller coaster-type rides took a picture of us when we reached the scariest point of the ride, and then showed us the pictures when we got off (hoping to get us to buy a copy). In all of the pictures that were taken of us, I was laughing or grinning, and Miark was sitting next to me, looking very pale and very serious.

We’re now on our way to find a new Formule-One, and from there to set off to Mont St-Michel tomorrow.

The other notable event of the day was stopping at a service-type station in the countryside to go to the bathroom (on our way Mont St-Michel). Upon opening the stall door I discovered the indicated facility was a small hole in the ground. With a concrete floor, no toilet paper, and no instructions, it was, suffice to say, a very memorable experience.
